but they aren't pickled! They will be made into salsa tomorrow, and some will be saved as fresh to add to "stuff" (Ron likes them the hotter the better!), and the rest will be frozen! We're SO thankful for friends like Lorry and Terry K., who plant things that they don't even LIKE, and then invite us to enjoy the fruits of their labor!
Faith, family, food and fun are priorities in my life. I hope to share my faith, family activities, day to day recipes and the fun of my life (and sometimes, the not so fun aspects, too!)

Family Photos
The park we were at yesterday is a great spot to get some wonderful photos. Here are some for you to enjoy :)
One of the best parts about today was the realization by some of the kids that they really CAN have fun spending an afternoon with their FAMILY!
God has richly blessed us!
So what do you do with a bowl full of crawdads?
Well...
you bring them home and pick out the littlest ones to give a new home to.
welcome home, little fella! I hope you enjoy it here!
The rest of them...you dump some salt on, and then rinse, rinse, rinse them off....
and then toss them one by one into a pot of seasoned, boiling water. Make sure the corn and other veggies are already 'bout done when you toss these fellas in.
Then you wait patiently...it honestly only takes a minute...
and then you dump the drained pot on a table cloth...
and then you play with them a bit and pose them on your plate...
or study it a little bit trying to decide what to do next...
then you peel 'em...
oh, and pose with your "big guy" again...
and then you wonder if this is REALLY what you want to be doing...
and then you eat 'em!
Saturday afternoon FUN!
Our family was supposed to go see a Styx and Survivor concert in Waterloo last night, but for some reason, that performance got canceled. We were all REALLY bummed. Since we had nothing else on the schedule, we enjoyed a rare family day together. Here are some photos documenting our day.
Caleb and Rachel enjoyed some frisbie.
Ethan caught a little frog.
Ron and Ethan did some exploring.
and THEN the real fun began!
Crawdad hunting!
and photo taking :)
and reading...
but mostly...just hunting these little fellas...
they caught a few...and then kept huntin'
careful...they pinch!!
and when they do, it hurts REALLY badly and it makes you scream like a girl! Right Ethan?
careful now!
yeah...I told you...they pinch!
I TOLD you...they pinch! !
Ron and Cameron worked for a long while to catch "the big guy!"
SUCCESS!
Here's the bowlful of them that we ended up with! WOW!
Caleb said "Sure! I'll stick my finger in the bowl!"
Cameron and his "monster".
Then, Cameron had to call Grandma Koch to say "Hey, Grandma! How do you cook crawdads?"
