Since we were SO close to the edge of the state, we headed west JUST a little more and went to Devil’s Tower, Wyoming on Thursday. Another simply GORGEOUS day!

We had a GREAT time at Custer! The animals were out and about and the weather was beautiful!
This buffalo was standing in the ditch RIGHT beside the road, just as we entered the park! What a surprise!
THESE fellas were the hit of the day. Oh we laughed at them. They were friendly and curious and brave and definitely NOT shy at all!

We spent Wednesday evening at the Flying T Cowboy Dinner. Ron and Ethan enjoyed BBQ Buffalo, and I went with the beef. Cowboy beans, applesauce, baked potato and ginger cake rounded out the delicious meal! Entertainment in the form of twangy country music followed. I enjoyed it greatly! Ron…well…he’s not such a country fan, but he did enjoy the fiddling!

This lovely rainbow greeted us as we left the chuckwagon supper. It stormed quite tremendously while we were enjoying the dinner and show. But it cleared up nicely for the evening (and then stormed again overnight while we stayed snug and dry in our tent.)

OK, so we DID fall into one touristy trap thing while in SD, but we LOVED it! We did this with Caleb, Cameron and Rachel 12 summers ago, and it was fun, so we had to do a repeat with Ethan.
We got the biggest kick out of the way this bear was just sitting there!
These wrestling cubs were SO stinking CUTE!
It will be interesting to see how this place changes over the course of the years ahead!
We made THREE trips to Mt. Rushmore during this vacation. We first went on Tuesday evening, but the photographer in me said “I HAVE to come back in the morning light! The pictures are just awful!” So we went back Wednesday morning. And Ethan (well, and Ron and I, too) wanted to go back at night to see it when it was lit up. It is a literally AWEsome place! I love it!
